The Manchester United fans were drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern this week after their side were dumped out of the Champions League by Sevilla on Tuesday evening, and as such, the supporters have begun opening discussions on how their side can improve next season.

Manchester United’s premature exit from the Champions League against the modest opposition was a real eye-opener for the Red Devils faithful. The manner in which their side slumped to defeat against a team who is widely regarded as the weakest side left in the competition was extremely concerning for a set of supporters who have become so accustomed to success throughout the past two decades.

Jose Mourinho’s tactics have been slated in the British media since their defeat, as he opted to start Marouane Fellaini in midfield to offer a physical presence rather than starting Paul Pogba who could have injected some creativity into United’s attacking play. Mourinho did eventually introduce Pogba into proceedings with half an hour left to play, but the French international struggled to change the pattern of the game and was culpable of playing a handful of misplaced passes throughout his display.

Mourinho’s decision to omit Pogba from the starting eleven has unsurprisingly raised fresh questions about his future at the club and whether he is happy at Old Trafford. According to The Independent, United are determined to make Pogba a succeed in Manchester, but they are still considering a potential swap deal for Paris Saint-Germain’s Italian midfielder Marco Verratti next summer.
